Jamshedpur, Oct. 1: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will launch 3G services in Seraikela and Chaibasa later this month.
BSNL general manager A.K. Pahi revealed the plan on the state-owned telecom company’s 10th anniversary today.
Pahi said apart from 3G services, BSNL would also install 45 base transmission stations (BTS) to augment network connectivity in Jamshedpur Secondary Switching Area, which covers the three districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan. At present, there are 171 BTSs.
The telecom major also plans to provide 50,000 new post-paid mobile connections in the current financial year and 4,000 broadband connections. Currently, BSNL has 16,000 broadband customers and more than 2.5 lakh mobile customers. “Our efforts are aimed at ensuring quality and uninterrupted service to our customers,” Pahi said.
According to him, the wireless broadband (WiMAX) services, which were already introduced in rural areas, will be soon extended to urban areas too. Senior BSNL officials also elaborated on the newly launched Centrex facility. It is an intercom facility usually meant for housing complexes, where for more than 100 customers the connection is free.
To mark its anniversary, BSNL also extended a scheme, whereby SIM cards will be provided free to pre-paid customers. The offer will be effective till October 31.
The telecom company also organised an exhibition of its products and services at the Bistupur-based customer service centre.
