Six die on highway
• Six persons, including two women, were killed while three others injured when the pick-up van in which they were travelling collided with a trailer on NH-33 at Dhalbhumgarh in Ghatshila subdivision, around 65km from Jamshedpur, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Dhalbhumgarh thana OC Rajesh Kumar said the van, which was on its way to Baharagora, was negotiating a turn near Dhalbhumgarh rail bridge when it collided with the speeding trailer coming from the opposite direction and overturned.
Water bodies
• Ranchi Regional Development Authority told Jharkhand High Court that CBI has been asked to probe 1,394 cases in which buildings have come up allegedly after filling up water bodes in the capital while hearing a PIL on Wednesday.
Suspension
• The office of state IG (prison) on Wednesday suspended assistant jailor of Ghaghidih Central Jail Mohammed Nasim, wardens Vijay Kumar and K.N. Paswan, senior wardens Shiv Kumar Prasad and Murari Dhobi over the recovery of 33 mobiles from the prison on July 3 during inspection.
Electrocuted
• Contract worker Lakshman Bhengra died of electrocution after coming in contact with a transformer while building the boundary wall of the residence of Khunti SP Ashwani Kumar Sinha on Wednesday.
Admission
• The state government on Wednesday approved admission to three medical colleges in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad through percentile-based ranking from this year.
Train timings
• Train services will be hit for four days from July 8 in Chakradharpur railway division of South Eastern Railway (SER) due to maintenance and repair work at Rajganjpur station.
Jharsuguda-Rourkela passenger train will stay cancelled on all four days. Among those whose timings will alter, Hatia-Jharsuguda passenger will be re-scheduled to leave Hatia at 2pm instead of 11.45pm on July 9 and 10 and Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express will be detained for 20 minutes on July 10 between Rourkela and Kansbahal.
Axe death
• A 30-year-old man, admitted at the Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur, on being struck by an axe on Tuesday afternoon, died a few hours later at midnight. Police said one Dhanraj Yadav, who worked as a car washer with victim Shirish Behera at Golmuri, had attacked him after a fight. Yadav is absconding.
Phone theft
• Mobile phones worth over Rs 5 lakh discovered were stolen from a store on Bistupur Main Road in Jamshedpur on Wednesday. Bistupur police said shutters locks of the shops were intact.
Card con
• An unidentified youth duped a 62-year-old man, Shiv Chandra Mishra, of Rs 25,000 in Jamshedpur on Tuesday. Police said Mishra faced problem withdrawing cash from an ATM in Sakchi on Tuesday. Pretending to help the man, a youth took the debit card and PIN. Returning an invalid card to Mishra, the youth took out Rs 25,000.
