Ranchi, Sept. 21: Businessmen at Circular Road downed shutters till 2pm today in protest against yesterday’s attack on a restaurant by some tribal students.

More than 200 small and big business establishments and educational institutions remained closed. The traders also filed an FIR against the students at Lalpur police station.

One of the names in the FIR is of Dinesh Oraon, a resident of Nagra Toli.

President of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries Pradeep Sharma said the shutdown was symbolic as they wanted to convey a message to those, who tried to create rift in the society in the name of religion.

Sharma threatened that businessmen of the entire city would come together to protest if the district administration did not take any action against the guilty.

Police are yet to arrest anyone. Senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar said he would soon take up the matter with the traders.

The students and businessmen clashed last evening when the former ransacked a restaurant, Silver Spoon, after its owner refused to pay donation for Karma Puja. Property worth Rs 7 lakh was damaged in the incident.
