Jamshedpur, Oct. 31: Earthen lights are passé, make this Diwali nice and bright with Chinese lights.

With over 50 designs on offer, Chinese decorative lights have become the pick of the season, with the flower-shaped lights doing particularly well.

According to owners of gift centres and electrical shops, the demand for these items is very high. With over a week to go for Diwali, the lights are selling like hot cakes and the retailers are having to place extra orders.

Customers feel that purchasing flower-shaped lights is auspicious, as according to Vastu Shastra, flowers bring good fortune. These lights are available in various sizes but the “red rose design” is witnessing huge sales.

Apart from the flower-shaped lights, light bulbs in the shape of pots and ropes are also doing well.

Crystal-shaped sunflower lights, diamond-shaped rice lights, Swastik and Om-shaped lights are also on the popularity list.

The price of the Chinese lights range from Rs 20 to Rs 1,500 depending on the size and quality of the product.

Pawan Kumar of Madhur Electrical said people are ready to spend if they get fashionable products to decorate their homes.

“People feel that if they decorate their houses with these flower-shaped lights on Diwali it will bring them prosperity. But other designs are also selling in good numbers,” he added.

G. Kumar Swami, an expert in Vastu Shastra, said: “If lights in shape of flowers are kept in the north-east section of the house, they bring peace and harmony in the family. Rose-shaped flower lights enhance love among family members and the light-coloured flower-shaped bulbs bring peace.”

Neeraj Rakheja, a Sakchi-based shopowner, said Chinese bulbs have replaced earthen diyas. “The electric lights are popular in the suburbs, too,” said Rakheja.
