Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: After cracking a classy century in the third Test at the Eden Gardens, Shivnarine Chanderpaul would like to enact a repeat performance in the one-day international here.

The effort at the Eden was realised after the southpaw middle-order batsman took blessings at Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) at Ballygunge.

Chanderpaul would like to do the same here when he arrives in the city tomorrow afternoon with the rest of his team-mates.

After checking in at the hotel, Chanderpaul and wife Amy plan to visit BSS in Sonari in the evening. As per the programme drawn by BSS, Chanderpaul will distribute clothes among leprosy patients of Hind Club, a lepers’ colony in Burmamines.

A religious person that he is, Chanderpaul will also participate in the aarti before taking a round of the hostel where tribal students have been put up. The couple will be welcomed by the tribal students.

According to BSS’ public relations officer, Swami Charananand, the programme will last for about one and a half hours.

“We have already received the confirmation from Chanderpaul on e-mail. I spoke to him this morning on the phone,” he said.

Chanderpaul had informed about his willingness to visit BSS to seek blessings, he added.

“Before the Calcutta Test, he had sought the blessings of BSS's international president, Swami Akshyananda, at Ballygunge. It bore results as he struck a century at Eden, which helped his team gain an upper hand in the match,” said Swami Charananand.

According to him, apart from paying obeisance at the three temples located in the BSS premises, Chanderpaul and his wife will also seek blessings of Swami Gyanatmanandji, the in-charge of BSS here.

Swami Gyanatmanandji is reaching the city tonight from Delhi to be present on the occasion tomorrow. “Swamiji was in Delhi but when he came to know about the visit of the Chanderpauls, he decided to rush back,” Swami Charananand said.

Both Chanderpaul and his wife are disciples of Swami Vidyananji, the in-charge of the ashram in Guyana in the Caribbean islands, he added.

Swami Charananand said the couple frequently visit the ashram there to seek the blessings of Swami Vidyanandji.

“Chanderpaul and his wife are very religious who never miss an opportunity to talk on religion-related issues. We are happy that a cricketer of international repute is visiting our ashram,” he said.

According to him, the Chanderpauls would also watch a tribal dance to be staged by tribals of villages where the BSS operates. “The couple will be doing the round of the whole BSS ashram here. They will also be seeking details of activities being carried out by the ashram,” Swami Charananand added.

He said the ashram is all ready to greet the couple.
