Ranchi, June 8: Subway, the sandwich specialists from America, is looking at a comeback in the Jharkhand capital with a new outlet in two months.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni had opened the first outlet on the first floor of Tirath Mansion near Overbridge in a much-hyped inauguration last year, but the sandwich parlour ? the first in eastern India ? survived for only eight months before poor demand forced its closure.

Om Ranjan Kumar, who owns the franchise, blames the closure on the outlet?s location. ?Not many people knew about it,? he says. Kumar now wants to move Subway to a shopping centre coming up on Main Road.

The joint, says Kumar, is for those ?who have a taste for exotic food?. On top of his agenda is to ensure that the outlet gets proper publicity and youngsters get to know about it.

The variety of sandwiches offered at Subway includes a mix of the desi and the international.

While Kumar believes that the location of the old outlet was its biggest drawback, there are others, especially students, who feel that prices were the major problem area.

Priced between Rs 35 and Rs 139, the sandwiches were too expensive for the likes of Swati, a college student.

Rajdeep Singh, who runs a bag shop at Tiranth Mansion, says: ?People here may not be ready for all global products. We love what appeals to our Indian taste.?

At the same time, there are those who want Subway to reopen. ?I can take my girlfriend to only Caf? Coffee Day now. I can?t wait for Subway to reopen,? says Shahid, a student of the city?s Marwari College.
