The Indian hockey men's triumph over Germany by 5-4 to clinch historic bronze after a 41-year wait in the Tokyo Olympic sent cheers across the country early on Thursday morning.
Simdega, Jharkhand's hockey nursery like other parts of the state too turned estatic following a pall of gloom after Wednesday's disappointment post defeat of the women team against Argentina in the semi-final clash.
Meanwhile, the members of East Central women’s hockey team of Kanti Pradhan, younger sister of Niki Pradhan, Khunti based member of Indian National Hockey Team representing India in Tokyo on Thursday also congregated at Railway stadium of Dhanbad at around 3pm and celebrated the fete of the Indian National Men’s Hockey team and simultaneously cheered for the Indian National Women’s Hockey team’s Friday encounter.
Talking to The Telegraph Online at Randhir Verma Chowk, Jubair Alam, Vice President Dhanbad District Olympic Association, who led the celebration said, “The Indian hockey team winning medal after 41 years in Olympics has stirred a new wave of enthusiasm among the players, sports lovers and common people and we hope that our women's team will also bring laurels for the country tomorrow.”
Bijay Kumar Jha, renowned social worker and former Chairman of Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority, who was also present during the occassion said, “The medal winning fete of the Indian Hockey team in Olympics has reminded us of the glorious past of the Indian hockey team when we won gold continuously for eight years in Olympics.”
Kanti Pradhan, younger sister of national hockey team member Niki Pradhan, said, “Today’s victory of men’s national team has enlivened the hope of victory of women’s team also.”
“I had a brief message exchange with my elder sister Niki Pradhan today during which I asked for tomorrow’s match schedule and she replied that the match will be played tomorrow at 7 am,” said Kanti who works as a junior clerk in Signal and Maintenance Department of Railway at Dhanbad.
