Ranchi, May 2: Use and transportation of explosives in mining areas of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) will soon be monitored online and in adherence to guidelines provided by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (Peso), a wing of the Union ministry of commerce and industry.

With several CCL mining areas located in Naxalite pockets, safety and transportation of explosives have always been a matter of concern. So, the CCL authorities, along with Peso, organised a technical seminar at the company headquarters here today to tip 30-odd officials on how to monitor explosives online.

Joint director of National Information Centre S.K. Dathe conducted the daylong workshop, where officials were taught how to feed details of explosives in magazines, their security and transportation from magazines to mines.

“Basically, companies having licence to use explosives will now be required to submit online quarterly returns on the stock position, use and transportation of explosives. The exercise is aimed at safety and will also promote accountability of employees handling explosives,” said Kailash Kumar, joint chief controller of explosives, east circle.

CCL’s chief general manager (operations and co-ordination) R.P. Thakur said 50 per cent work in this connection had been completed and they hoped to launch soon.
