Jamshedpur, April 4: A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided the premises of Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) in connection with a contract awarded to it by National Institute of Technology (NIT) by allegedly violating the norms.

The CBI sleuths reportedly seized some revealing documents from the company premises and questioned a few senior officials of Jusco during the daylong raid.

CBI source said the bureau is trying to identify the influential people who helped Jusco bag the contract.

The tender for the civil and electrical contract to the tune of Rs 7.25 crore was floated about two years ago.

Managing director of Jusco Sanjeev Paul admitted that there was a search by CBI on the company?s premises in connection with a civil and electrical contract awarded to it a couple of years ago.

Jusco chairman Arun Narayan Singh said: ?We were surprised and dismayed to learn today that some vested interests have filed a criminal case with the CBI involving Jusco and a search was carried out at the corporate office. The residence of an official was also searched to obtain relevant records.?

?Jusco and its officials cooperated with the CBI officials and provided all answers to their queries. Jusco assured the CBI of all support in this investigation to bring out the facts as they are,? Singh said.

He further added: ?Jusco is pained to note that despite its commitment to facilitate NIT to be a world class engineering institute, it has been dragged into an unnecessary controversy where it has nothing to hide. In fact, as a goodwill gesture and commitment to bring this institute up Tata Steel through Jusco has provided free supervision for jobs worth Rs 1.5 crore which were executed at NIT for its hostel and administrative block maintenance.?

He expressed hope that the matter would be quickly sorted out and facts cleared.
