Bhubaneswar, March 25: Senior IAS officer and former chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the Orissa State Beverages Corporation (OSBC) was today arrested for his role in the excise scam.
The cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act were registered against Mishra last year. Additional chief judicial magistrate of Khurda sessions court BC Rout remanded Mishra to judicial custody till April 7 after rejecting his bail petition.
The state vigilance had registered three criminal cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mishra (vide Bhubaneswar Vigilance case nos. 9, 34 &35/03) on allegations of criminal misconduct prejudicial to state revenue and public interest.
In the first criminal case (Case No.9 of 2003), Mishra was charged with not constituting a price fixation committee to fix the right price of liquor for the Orissa State Beverages Corporation.
In the second case, (vide Bhubaneswar Vig case No.35 of2003) Mishra was charged with unilaterally printing crores of Excise Adhesive Labels (EAL) by a private press under the cover of the Orissa Consumer Co-operative Federation (OCCF) and distributing them to select liquor manufacturers, bypassing the excise department.
