Jamshedpur, March 24: British educationists want to facilitate “learning”, not promote “teaching”, in schools.
A team of 11 British school heads, who were in the city on a week-long visit under the UK India Education and Research Initiative, has designed an objective to substantially improve educational links between India and the UK.
“We have been particularly impressed with the kind of teaching standards incorporated in schools here, but we wish to extend help in mathematics, considered as difficult by an appreciable number of students,” put in David Lythgoe, the chairperson of the British group, Logos, which comprises education heads in the UK.
Moreover, the team (in picture by Srinivas) has expressed interest in collaborating with city schools to facilitate quality learning. “It is worth appreciating that classes have an average strength of 50 students here, while in the UK, we cannot think beyond addressing a class of 30,” said Annette Croft, facilitator from Heart of England School. Croft is also the leader of the group formed two years ago.
As a part of the programme, the group, divided into clusters, visited 15 schools and took particular note of the teaching methodology being followed in each.
