Dowry-kill conviction
A 27-year-old man was convicted by the court of additional district judge Ashok Kumar on Thursday of murdering his wife in 2014 for dowry.
Ramanand Mishra, an employee of Tata Motors, had pushed his wife Arti Mishra into a well at Daiguttu in Mango on October 9, two months after they got married. Ramanand was demanding Rs 5 lakh as dowry. The court will pronounce the sentence on Saturday.
Gold thief
A 28-year-old woman stole four gold chains weighing 190 grams from a jewellery store in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, where she used to work, on Wednesday. Mamta Banerjee, a resident of Kasidih, is absconding. Police said Mamta had fled with her husband Ram Prakash Sharma.
Fogging order
Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar on Thursday directed special officers of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Mango Notified Area Committee, Jugsalai Municipality and Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco to carry out fogging exercise and spray DDT across Jamshedpur.
CCTV vigil
West Singhbhum district police installed 16 CCTV cameras at Chaibasa, 60km from Jamshedpur, on Thursday. Superintendent of police, West Singhbhum, Michael Raj said the surveillance cameras were provided by a local mining company and had been installed at strategic locations to step up security.
Tax rule plea
A delegation of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) led by its president Suresh Sonthalia and former president Murlidhar Kedia met K.K. Khandelwal, secretary- cum-commissioner, commercial taxes, in Ranchi on Thursday and handed over a memorandum, demanding simplification in commercial tax rules to benefit traders and businessmen.
Seminar
East Singhbhum public relations office organised a seminar in Potka, 18km from Jamshedpur, on how to prevent lightning deaths at Potka block office auditorium, on Thursday. Panchayat representatives, employees of various government departments and disaster management officials attended the seminar. District public relations officer Sanjay Kumar said that East Singhbhum was vulnerable to lightning and hence necessary precautions needed to be taken to prevent lightning attacks.
4 held for murder
Four men were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old CCL employee in May. Parmeshwar Munda, Basant Munda and Binu Kumar Choudhary were arrested from Ormanjhi while Manoj Munda was held from Ramgarh.
Satyendra Munda's body was found on May 24 in a well at Palumunda Toli, 25km from capital Ranchi. Police said Satyendra's former girlfriend, Savita (22), plotted his murder because he married another woman after being in a relationship with her for five years. Savita has already been held.
Snatching
Two men on a motorcycle snatched a mobile phone of local scribe in Ranchi on Thursday. Ashish Kumar was talking to someone on phone outside the Vidhan Sabha gate around2.30pm, when the incident took place.

Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi on Thursday asked constables to extend help to people and be available when needed, during a programmed organised at police lines in Ranchi on Thursday.
Ventilator
An infant ventilator was introduced at the neonatal wing of RIMS, Ranchi, on Thursday. Dr A.K. Shamar, head of the paediatric department, said the machine had been procured from a Germany-based company at a cost of around Rs 18 lakh.
Raid on chit firms
Ranchi: Economic offence wing of the CBI on Thursday raided offices of several chit fund companies like Rose Valley, Priya Infotech and others in Godda and Sahebganj.
The CBI raided altogether 81 places in Jharkhand, Gujarat, Bengal, Odisha and Bihar. It has formed a SIT to probe 32 companies. "These raids were made in light of two FIRs lodged by the CBI in February and March, 2015. The seized documents will be scrutinised by our legal team," said a senior CBI official.
Marandi FIR
Hazaribagh: An FIR, based on the complaint of NTPC, was lodged on Thursday against JVM supremo Babulal Marandi, former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay, RJD state president Gautam Sagar Rana, and Barkagaon MLA Nirmala Devi for organising a public meeting at a restricted area in Pakri-Barwadih here on Sunday. The FIR was also against 450 unidentified persons, present in the meeting.
Pahari pleas
Ranchi: A delegation from the Pahari tribal community on Thursday handed over a 10-point charter of demands to governor Droupadi Murmu. The demands included a reserved area for them, appointment of special welfare officer for their development, Paharia battalion besides seven others.
