Jamshedpur, Dec. 28: The 20th Annual Flower Show organised by Horticultural Society of Jamshedpur and Jusco was a treat for plant lovers.
From flower, fruits, vegetables plants to bonsai, creepers, climbers, the show had it all.
“Although the participation was more or less the same as last year’s, the number of visitors increased this year. In 2008, we introduced rose plants as a new category in the award section and the highest participation was witnessed in this category only,” said B.N. Mohanty, the general secretary of Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur.
The three-day flower show had 2,000 variety of flowers and about 55 varieties of bonsai. This apart, it also had pot grown fruits and vegetables like orange, sapota, tomato, brinjals and long melon.
This year, there are about 30 kiosks with 35 amateur entries and 14 institutional entries. Prizes were distributed in 13 different categories where Tata Cummins became the overall champion in the institutional group giving a tough competition to Vig English School. R.S. Bhatia emerged as the overall champion in the amateur category.
“The crowd reflects that the people of steel city have a keen interest in nature and plants. People are aware of the environment concerns and have taken up the job of saving the planet,” said Rabindra Kumar Agrawal, the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, who was the chief guest at the valedictory function.
This time, there was a special show to exhibited flowers from foreign destinations like enthurium, lilium, orchid.
