The body of Akash K Shukla (22) was recovered on Friday, 24 hours after he was feared to have drowned in the Dhurwa Dam, with police calling his death an act of suicide based on a note recovered from his belongings.

Officer-in-charge of Nagri police station Ajay Kumar Singh, who recovered the body of the youth in the afternoon with the help of an 8-member team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), said the youth seemed to be a religious fanatic given that he said he was killing himself on the call of Mata Rani.

"The suicide note recovered from the diary of Shukla, a resident of Mistry Mohalla in Doranda, suggests he was obsessed with Mata Rani. He would often tell people that he had just met Mata Rani. He even ended his suicide note with Jai Mata Di," Singh said.

On January 31, a devotee from Bihar "sacrificed" himself by slitting his throat on the premises of the famous Chinnamastika temple in Rajrappa.

"Excess of anything is bad. This is true, the incident seems similar to the one in Rajrappa," Singh told The Telegraph.

Police got to know of Shukla's drowning on Thursday evening after a patrol van spotted what looked to be an abandoned scooter near Dhurwa Dam. They found a diary with Shukla's details and his suicide note nearby. His mobile phone was recovered after his body was fished out of the dam on Friday.

Shukla, sources said, was the area manager of Oppo Mobile and was posted in Khunti.

A case of unnatural death has been registered and Shukla's body sent for post-mortem.

"Whether the world considers me to be mad or anything else... I am afraid of God. That is why I am taking this step. There is no reason behind this. My Karma is compelling me to do this. Time and again I hate myself. I thought several times not to take this step but my God is calling..." Shukla's suicide note said.
