Ranchi: More than 24 hours have passed but police are yet to make any arrest in connection with the brazen attack on two businessmen near Khelgaon More here on Saturday afternoon.

Two bike-borne criminals had fired on businessmen, Manoj Gope (35) and Basant (37), when they were standing outside Aruni Sahodara School at Dipatoli. While Gope, a gas agency dealer, is recuperating in Bhagwan Mahavir Super Specialty Hospital, Basant, a hardware store owner, has been admitted to RIMS. Both are currently out of danger.

Eyewitnesses said the criminals, who had their faces covered with helmets, approached the duo and exchanged a few words before shooting at them.

On Sunday, the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) expressed deep concern over recurring incidents of attacks on traders.

FJCCI's real estate sub-committee chairman Anchal Kinger, while expressing concern on the attack, said criminals were frequently targeting businessmen while the government was busy making claims on good governance. " Yeh boli ki sarkar hai (this government only talks)," Kinger said.

"Earlier, businessmen were attacked only four to five times a year. Now, four to five businessmen are targeted every month," he added.

Kinger said police should become more alert. "A few days ago, police foiled an attempt to attack two businessmen by arresting the criminals at Dhurwa locality. I think they should be more active," he said.

"We have no clue so far. We recorded the statements of both the businessmen, but it failed to give us any headway. The businessmen said they had no enmity with anyone," officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Dayanand Kumar said.

He said police were collecting CCTV footage from the area through which the criminals escaped.
