Jamshedpur, Feb. 17: After a three-month hunt, the district administration has zeroed in on a site in upmarket Bistupur for indiOne, a chain of low-budget hotels promoted by the Tata group.
Officials of the East Singhbhum administration today identified two acres of land in front of Voltas House in Bistupur for setting up the hotel. The site for construction of the proposed hotel was recommended to the state tourism department after a spot inspection conducted by land and revenue secretary A.C. Ranjan and East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal.
Sources in the state tourism directorate said the company had approached the government last year with a proposal to set up its indiOne chain of hotels in four cities of Jharkhand ? Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad and Bokaro.
?In the report submitted to the tourism department, the Tata group had proposed to set up these hotels having four-star facilities. The target customers of the indiOne chain of hotels will be the middle-income group. The hotel will have both single and double bedrooms with other modern facilities,? said sources.
District administration officials said the tourism department had requested the deputy commissioner to identify a suitable site for the project after submission of the proposal by the Tata group.
Burnwal said the vacant plot of land on Bistupur Main Road has been recommended to the tourism department for necessary action. ?The state land and revenue secretary today made on-the-spot assessment of the proposed site and gave his consent to clear the land for the project,? he said.
IndiOne, run by Roots Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Hotels which runs the deluxe Taj brand, is currently scouting for land in about 150 cities across the country to set up hotels, which will offer high-end hospitality at an affordable price.
Given that Jharkhand will host the National Games in 2007, the state tourism department is taking a keen interest in the hotels. The Tata group intends to set up 150 low-budget hotels across the country, with a room tariff that will be less than Rs 1,000 a day. IndiOne hotels will also come up in four cities in West Bengal, including Calcutta, Siliguri, Haldia and Durgapur.
Though the price will be reasonable, indiOne is expected to have all the four-star facilities. The rooms will have modern facilities like electronic locks, a mini-fridge, a 17-inch wall-mounted flat TV, tea and coffee machines, Internet services and a work area. The hotel will also have a multi-cuisine restaurant, a cyber cafe, conference rooms, gymnasium, digital safe deposit box and doctor-on-call facilities.
