If you have an entrepreneurial bent of mind or keep tabs on the stock market, then you have a fair chance of beating your rivals at a national-level fest at Carmel Junior College.
The cradle in Sonari, Jamshedpur, is all set to host the first edition of Carmel Summit, a mega inter-school contest, on November 3 and 4, which will see participation of students from others states as well.
"Last year, we had organised Ecorsa, a regional inter-school business competition, that saw good participation. While Ecorsa was organised by the Economics Club, this time we have merged all the student clubs to come up with a fest that will involve real brainstorming," said Sushmita Sarkar, one of the teachers of the core committee of Carmel Summit.
Till date, 12 schools have confirmed their participation. While seven - Hill Top, Little Flower, Loyola, Sacred Heart Convent, Rajendra Vidyalaya, DAV-Bistupur and Carmel Junior College - are from Jamshedpur, students from schools in Ludhiana and Rourkela, will also take part.
The key attraction of the fest will be Boom Merchant, a rigorous online trading event with a prize money of Rs 25,000. The other competitions include dance drama, fashion show, quiz, product launch, gaming and model UN.
"It being an online event, Boom Merchant started on September 26. Participants were involved in real-time trading with NYSE. In the second round, they will have to design revival strategies for bankrupt companies followed by a third round where they have to argue with a rival company only to prove their credibility in the market. The last round will be a Q&A round where stalwarts from the industry will question the participants," said Sarkar.
"Participating in the Carmel Summit will mean learning many things at one go. From speech-craft and articulation to combating crisis and hindrances in profitable ventures, this event is sure to hone student confidence," said Dhruv Vasani, a student organiser of Carmel Junior College.
