Jamshedpur, Jan. 11: The proposal of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) to revive the relegation system in the B-division league promises to witness new talents in the coming days.

The JSCA sub-committee has also proposed to start the qualifying tournament from this season.

Relegation from the B-division league had been discontinued for the past one decade. The state cricket body presently organises A- and B-division leagues and knockout tournaments.

The league matches are widely considered a yardstick for selection of players in the state teams.

B.N. Singh, Jharkhand State Cricket Association vice-president and chairman of the tournament sub-committee, told The Telegraph that the proposals would have to be approved by the managing committee.

“We are hopeful of the approval of the proposals, which aim at the larger participation of teams in the local tournaments,” he added.

According to the proposals, new teams will be eligible to participate in the qualifying tournaments. The top team from the qualifying round will be promoted to the B-division and the outfit finishing at the bottom of the lower tier (B-division league) will be relegated to the qualifying stage.

The teams intending to participate in the qualifying tournaments should have recommendations from at least two registered clubs of the cricket body.

A member of the tournament sub-committee said there has been no relegation system in the B-division for about a decade now.

“Relegation was applicable to A division teams only. The team finishing last in this group is relegated to the B division and the top team of the lower tier is promoted to the A division,” he added.
