VBU: For the better |
Dhanbad, May 14: Vinoba Bhave University is all set to introduce changes in the existing norms for BEd admission.
The university is planning to revert to the old, centralised admission procedure to do away with the college-wise admission process.
The changes are aimed at introducing greater transparency in the admission process, which often draws criticism for alleged corruption. The university is also planning to introduce an entrance test instead of sticking to the existing system of merit-based admission.
Vice-chancellor Arvind Kumar said that a separate admission cell would be constituted at the university to look after the admission process. The committee will comprise deans and principals of respective colleges.
On the advantages of the new system, Kumar said that if they took in quality students, the quality of the course would also improve.
Regarding the changes in the appointment process of the BEd teachers, Kumar said that the changes had been introduced according to the changed National Council of Teachers’ Education norms.
The university has also announced a new panel of teachers for the seven BEd colleges under the varsity. The teachers of the new panel are expected to join their respective colleges soon. The new panel comprises 43 teachers.
While most working teachers have been retained in the new panel, any decision on the fate of six working teachers — who have moved against the university’s decision to conduct exams for the reappointment of teachers — is yet to be taken.
Six teachers, including three of SSLNT Women’s College, Dhanbad, had moved the high court challenging the clause in an advertisement put up by the university for the appointment of BEd teachers.
As per the advertisement, only those who have completed their postgraduation in any school subject, besides having BEd and MEd degrees, can apply for the post.
