Godda, March 26: While one is a veteran eager to win back his clout, the other is a new face. And giving them competition is a sitting MP and a Bollywood director.

Here is the poll line-up for the Godda parliamentary seat that is expected to witness a close competition among the heavyweights in the Lok Sabha elections. And the candidates are wasting no time to woo the voters.

Former state minister and BJP rebel Pradip Yadav is contesting the seat on a JVM(P) ticket while Nishi Kant Dubey, BJP’s new soldier, is making a debut. On the other hand, Congress’s sitting MP Furkan Ansari is trying hard to ensure that he retains the seat.

Bollywood director Iqbal Durrani, who is contesting on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket, is not lagging behind either. He has been camping in Godda for the past one year and has even ventured into the remote pockets of the constituency.

Dubey has kicked off his poll programme from Deoghar where he has a large number of supporters. Besides, BJP workers from neighbouring Bhagalpur, Dubey’s home turf, have came forward to help him. “After filling nomination on Saturday, I will concentrate more on campaigning,” he said.

Yadav, on the other hand, had started campaigning a year ago. He has gone from door-to-door, asking the residents to vote for him. And after all the hard work, he is confident of winning. “People here know that I have done good work,” he said.

The Congress camp, which is yet to accelerate campaigning, is busy mobilising party workers in remote areas. “Tough competition awaits Furkan saheb, but he will surely retain the seat,” a Congress supporter said.

Political observers believe the tussle in this seat would be more interesting to watch if JMM and RJD fielded their candidates, too.
