Jamshedpur, Dec. 28: They may have left the chaos and devastation behind but not the memories of sheer horror.
The seven city-based women cricketers, who were part of the Ranchi University cricket team that was to participate in an inter-varsity meet in Kalaikudi near Chennai in Tamil Nadu, returned to the city today.
All of them were unhurt in the destruction caused by the tsunami on Sunday in Tamil Nadu but none of them were left untouched by the trauma caused by the mere sight of rushing ambulances, fire vans, dead bodies of babies being ferried to hospitals and people running helter-skelter for protection.
?Please don?t ask me any questions. I am very depressed. I am not in a position to utter a single word,? said Abhilasha Prasad, a second-year B.Com student of Jamshedpur Women?s College (JWC). A resident of Telco Colony, the girl almost broke into tears when approached by mediapersons.
Moumita Chakravarty was more composed. Depressed but in control, the 22-year-old right-handed opener, who also bowls off-spin, recounted the hours the team spent at the Chennai Central waiting room. ?We reached Chennai station on December 26. after some time we got to hear about Sagarika and Mamata?s death from an official of the state baseball team. We rushed to the CH General Hospital and .... I cannot describe the scene,? said Moumita, also a second-year B.Com student of JWC.
According to Moumita, she is happy to be with her family and intends to take some rest before concentrating on the game again.
The youngster said that after returning from the hospital at Chennai, they spent the whole day trying to get tickets for the return journey. ?We were running from pillar to post. Luckily, we came across a station welfare officer who arranged tickets for us in a special bogie of the Allepey-Tata Express,? she said.
The bodies of Sagarika Chakravarty and Mamata Kumari, members of the state baseball team, who fell victim to the tsunami in Chennai on December 26, will arrive in Ranchi tomorrow. ?The bodies were scheduled to arrive today. But they has been a delay. They will reach Ranchi only tomorrow,? sources in the Ranchi University said.
