Born on February 6 this year, Ziva Dhoni earned her official spurs to become a globetrotter on Monday.
Dressed in casuals, Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni and his wife Sakshi turned up at Regional Passport Office at Ratu Road on Ranchi this afternoon to get a passport for their gurgling bundle of joy Ziva. A delighted passport office obliged.
Dad, who had been in Australia for the ICC World Cup when his darling daughter was born at a hospital in Gurgaon, has ensured that she can accompany him everywhere from now on.
Sakshi, who had a passport with her maiden name - Sakshi Singh Rawat - changed it to Sakshi Singh Dhoni. Dhoni also got his passport reissued.
The couple did not bring along the baby. But, their sudden presence - Dhoni is known for his low-key appearances in his hometown - created a stir at Galaxia Mall, where the passport office operates from, fans crowding for a peek at the celebrity couple.
As the passport office issued Ziva's passport, reissued her father's and changed the name of her mother's, all with clockwork efficiency, Dhoni was generous in his praise.
He ticked "excellent" in all the boxes of the feedback form. "Fantastic facility. Thanks for everything. Keep up the good work," he wrote.
"It is a proud moment for Ranchi passport office that we issued passports to Dhoni and his family," said Sanatan, regional passport officer who prefers to use his first name.
"Since both parents already had passports along with due police verification done, we didn't have to run a background check of the little girl. So, we printed the passport for Ziva immediately," Sanatan said. "As far as Dhoni and his wife Sakshi are concerned, we did their passport-related tasks on the spot as well. Reissuing hardly takes time. And, if a passport holder wants her spousal name included, all we need is a marriage certificate. Dhoni and Sakshi had brought it along with them," he added.
Sanatan added he had met Dhoni some months ago at Ranchi airport when Captain Cool had told him he needed his passport reissued but his busy schedule got in the way. After IPL-8 ended, Dhoni came back to Ranchi for a break and found time to settle these passport-related tasks.
"Dhoni and Sakshi stayed here for an hour and were very down-to-earth and polite," said a source at the passport office.
Little Ziva has already seen a fair bit of her own country. After Dhoni's return from Australia, the baby has sportingly accompanied daddy at many venues during the recently concluded IPL between April and May.
