Jamshedpur, June 25: A five-member team of the Bangalore-based National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) would inspect three constituent colleges of Ranchi University — Jamshedpur Workers’ College, Chaibasa Mahila College and Graduate School College for Women — in August for necessary accreditation.

The NAAC team was scheduled to visit the three colleges in May. However, the degree examinations forced the team to postpone its visit. University sources said the academic consultant of NAAC, P.R. Manju Nath, has sent letters to the three college in this connection. The inspection will take place from August 2 to 5, sources said.

The University Grants Commission has made it mandatory for colleges to get the NAAC accreditation to be eligible for its funds.

St Xavier’s College, Ranchi, was the first college in the state to get the NAAC accreditation (B++). In May this year, three more colleges under Ranchi University — Marwari College, Ranchi Women’s College and Nirmala College — received the NAAC accreditation.

From the steel city, Jamshedpur Workers’ College and Graduate School College for Women had applied in January this year. The colleges had to submit a detailed self-study report.

University officials said the NAAC team would interview students, guardians, members of the respective alumni associations and teaching and non-teaching staff members. They would also physically verify the research activities and the condition of the laboratories, libraries and other infrastructure. The NAAC team would submit its report to the executive committee, which in turn would give the necessary grading to the colleges, officials pointed out.

After receiving the NAAC letters, college authorities have taken steps to ensure that the laboratories, libraries and other facilities were in proper shape before the visit.

Jamshedpur Workers’ College principal S.S. Razi rushed to the university to make the final preparations before the visit.

“We are overhauling the college. A lot of work has to be finalised before the NAAC team arrives. Our faculty members are taking no chances and are putting in the necessary effort to streamline things on the campus. The laboratory and library are, of course, top on the priority list,” he said.

Marwari College principal Javed Ahmed told The Telegraph from Ranchi that other colleges would also apply for NAAC accreditation.
