Jamshedpur: One of the accused was arrested on Thursday in the Niranjan Singh murder on Tuesday, supposedly over enmity over the multi-crore Tatanagar station parking contract.

Raids are on to arrest the three others.

City SP Prabhat Kumar confirmed the sole arrest in the small hours of Thursday but refused to divulge any details such as name and place, claiming it would hamper investigation at this juncture. SO, it is not known who among Niraj Dubey, Mohammed Arif, Alam Gir and Aman Mishra, mentioned in the murder FIR by Niranjan's father, is in police custody now.

"We have arrested one of the four accused in the murder that seems to be the outcome of enmity between Niraj Dubey, a former railway parking contractor, and Niranjan. But we will not reveal the name in the interest of the probe," city SP Kumar told this paper.

Jugsalai resident Niranjan, 30, was gunned down by a gang of three bike-borne criminals near Hotel Dayal International in Sakchi on Tuesday evening, 40 days after one Bagbera resident Kamlesh Singh, said to be a close acquaintance of gangster Akhilesh Singh, bagged the Tatanagar parking contract.

The police are probing to establish if Niranjan had helped Kamlesh get the Rs 4-crore, three-year parking contract of the Chakradharpur railway division on November 9.

Niraj, brother of hardened criminal Pankaj Dubey, had also been vying for the same contract.

A police source off the record said the railway parking contract on quotation basis - worth Rs 42 lakh for three months to be renewed after the tenure - was being run by Niraj, Niranjan and six other partners. But this August, Niranjan and Niraj fell out over parking collections and Niranjan left the group.

When the railways invited bids for the new three-year lucrative contract, Kamlesh got the contract and not Niraj. "The Dubey camp apparently felt Niranjan had something to do with this," the policeman added.

The Tatanagar parking contract has for long been in the news for all wrong reasons. Murdered transporter Upendra Singh had also run the railway parking for a year.
