Bhubaneswar, Nov. 6 : A 29-year-old woman in the Dumduma area was today attacked by a goon for trying to shield her seven-year-old son from his clutches.

Pramila Sahoo, a mother of three, had just finished her bath around 7. 30 am when Babu Pradhan, her neighbour, stormed into their home with a bhujali and nearly chopped off her left arm.

According to Pramila, who is now at the Capital Hospital, trouble started when Benu, Pramila’s second son, had on Thursday shouted slangs at Pradhan in public.

“He had rushed to hit my boy but the onlookers had stopped him then,” said Pramila.

On the same evening, Pradhan had allegedly tried to attack Pramila’s husband Bhagwan Sahoo, while he was returning from work. “I managed to save myself after elders intervened. He threatened to kill my son,” said Sahoo. Later, both the parties were made to sign a bond of understanding stating that there would not be any further ramifications.

But Pradhan evidently had other plans. This morning, he entered Sahoo’s residence and started looking for the boy.

“When I intercepted, he sliced off my arm,” said Pramila. A profusely bleeding Pramila was rushed to the hospital where doctors are contemplating amputation.

“A case has been registered and the search is on,” said Sashibhushan Sathpathy, inspector in-charge of Khandagiri police station.

Pradhan, however, is absconding.
