Ranchi, March 13: Police today lodged an FIR against an advocate of Jharkhand High Court, Vikram Sinha, for employing a teenager as domestic help, who was found dead outside his residence about eight days ago.

Senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar informed this, saying the action was taken on the basis of a report of deputy superintendent of police (Sadar) Shams Tabrez. In the report, Tabrez stated that Vikram Sinha had employed 16-year-old Anna Oraon without finding out any information about her family members.

Anna had been working at the advocate’s home at Shiv Sai Tower (Phase II) in New Area Morabadi under the Bariatu police station for the past five years. Her blood-caked body was recovered from outside the building on March 4.

The next day, Sinha lodged an unnatural death case with Bariatu police, saying that the girl had died after falling off the balcony of his third floor flat while collecting clothes that were let out for drying.

However, JVM leader Kiran Jha claimed that it was not an open-and-shut case and alleged that either someone had abetted the girl to commit suicide or she was murdered. She knocked on the doors of senior police officers, requesting their intervention.

A team, comprising senior police officers, began investigations, but they could not proceed further as they could not meet the girl’s father, whose statement was crucial.

Last Tuesday, a group of about tribal women, armed with axes, barged into the advocate’s residence, ransacked the rooms and threatened the family members for alleged murder of the teenager. Police arrested Kiran Jha, who was in the mob, and two others after the incident but failed to register any case against the advocate.

This angered several tribal organisations and human rights bodies that clamoured for justice and finally a case was registered today.

However, Anna’s body has not been disposed off yet. SSP Kumar said efforts were on to trace her father.

“We have come to know that the girl’s father lives at Goelkera near Chaibasa. We have sent a team there to trace him. It is expected that he will reach Ranchi by tomorrow and then, the maid’s body will be disposed off,” he said.
