ABVP-Ajsu alliance stole the show at Ranchi University (RU) student union elections on Wednesday with their candidates winning all the five posts.
While RSS-affiliated ABVP won the posts of president, vice-president and additional secretary, Ajsu bagged the secretary and deputy secretary posts.
Pawan Baraik (24), English honours first-year student of KCB College, Bero, is the new president, Puja Kumari (24), first-year MCom student of Ranchi Women's College the vice-president, Nitish Singh (23) third-year commerce student of Marwari Boys' College the secretary, Manoj Kacchap (24), historystudent of RU postgraduate department the deputy secretary and Rajkishore Mahto (22), first-year history (honours) student of Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav College the additional secretary.
Chief minister Raghubar Das congratulated ABVP for their clean sweep. "I praise ABVP for encouraging college voters to cast votesfor the right candidates with a meaningful agenda," he said in a message forwarded to RU election WhatsApp group.
Celebrations were held at BJP state headquarters in Harmu where ABVP members distributed sweets and also burst crackers.
ABVP convener Ashutosh Singh said that their outfit and Ajsu would join hands to solve students' problems.
The oath-taking ceremony was held on the premises of RU administrative office near Shaheed Chowk around 3.30pm.
RU's student union elections' poll officer B.K. Sinha said president Baraik got 51 votes, Puja bagged 50 votes, Nitish 53, Rajkishore 49 and Manoj 54 votes. "There were 15 NOTA votes and 13 invalid votes," he added.
New additional secretary Rajkishore Mahto said that his first task would be to request college administration to provide additional classrooms to accommodate students. "In our college, students attend classes sitting in the verandah. I will ensure that that there are more classrooms," he added.
