Ranchi, June 20: Three teenaged boys drowned in Sundar river in Mahagama, Godda, around 330km from capital Ranchi, during a Sunday morning fun trip with friends.

Though the bodies were fished out last evening, police recovered the deceased's clothes, two motorcycles and one scooty from the riverbank this morning and began thorough investigations into the tragedy.

Police said seven Class IX students of DAV-Urjanagar had left home on bikes, saying they were going to play, and went to Sundar river near Narayanpur village in Rajabhitta area, around 10-15km away. While taking a bath, three of them drowned.

The deceased have been identified as Anyadeep, alias Pulkit (15), son of Dilip Singh from Mahagama, Nirmal Tudu (15), son of Narendra Tudu from Mahadev Bathan, and Nishant Marandi (15), son of Markesh Marandi from Simda village.

Godda SP Sanjeev Kumar said the four friends apparently tried to save the three drowning boys but failed..

"We have talked to the four boys. The boys said that two of their friends were drowning when the third one jumped into the water to save them. He also started drowning. Then they sought help from two local fishermen, who later fished out the bodies. The fishermen told the four boys that they may be framed for murder so they fled from the spot . This is a common phenomenon, which does not indicate anything. But, their versions are being cross-examined. We have taken the case seriously and probing it," he added.

Further, the SP added a board of doctors conducted the post-mortem, which was video-recorded. "The viscera of the boys have been preserved and will be sent for forensic investigations. We are probing into the matter from all sides but so far there has been nothing to indicate any foul play," said the SP.
