Ranchi, May 11: It?s bad news for fans of the rock group, 11th Hour.
The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, band has decided to split after its members were got jobs in different parts of the country and abroad. They will be leaving the campus in a day or two.
?11th Hour? comprises Prasoon Basu (lead vocalist/guitarist), Deepayan Mukherjee (rhythm and lead guitarist), Amit Halalka (drummer/backing vocals) and Abhishek Minz (bass). Abhishek is not in the line-up at present and Raman has taken his place in the band as a bass player.
The band started three years ago when a love for music bought them together.
The group was originally called ?NH-33? as their institute was situated on the NH-33 highway. But they soon found a more appropriate name.
?Rehearsals and practice sessions were always left to the last minute because of our hectic study schedules, so we decided to call ourselves 11th Hour,? said Amit.
The band took some time off to share memories with The Telegraph.
?Our first major show was a disaster,? recalled Prasoon. The outfit had been asked to play at the 2003 spring festival in IIT Kharagpur in which they could not perform well.
The experience made the band work harder. Their practice paid off and they came fourth in the Campus Rock Idols competition.
11th hour plays a mixture of cover songs and their own compositions. They rate U2?s Joshua Tree and Pink Floyd?s Comfortably Numb as their favourites.
?We?ve still got that fire burning inside us to go on and perform,? said Deepayan. The band members now plan to keep on practising music and may join other bands in the cities in which they are based.
Amit has secured a job in Cognizant Technology Solutions, a software solution company and will be based in New Jersey while Deepayan will work with Accenture, also a software solution company, while Prasoon will move to IIM, Bangalore, for further studies. Raman, their junior, will finish his studies at BIT.
