Mumbai, Sept. 30 (PTI): Actor Tom Alter, best known for his versatile performances in Shatranj Ke Khilari, Junoon and Kranti, has passed away aged 67.

The veteran theatre, television and film actor and Padma Shri awardee, who had been battling stage four skin cancer, died last night at his residence here. He is survived by his wife Carol, son Jamie and daughter Afshaan.

Born to American Christian missionary parents in Mussoorie in 1950, Alter's last rites were performed this afternoon at Worli crematorium. "Dad wanted to be cremated," Jamie told PTI.
