CPI parliamentarian Binoy Viswam has sought President Droupadi Murmu’s intervention to ensure that Parliament sessions remain a platform where questions and matters of public interest are raised and deliberated upon, and do not become a “Bhakt Jan Samiti”.

The Rajya Sabha member sought the intervention in a letter to the President
after MPs were informed on Saturday that there would be no Question Hour or Zero Hour (for raising issues of urgent public importance) during the five-day special session that the government has decided to call from September 18 without revealing the agenda.

Expressing disappointment at the manner in which the special session was being convened without consulting the Opposition on the agenda and denying MPs time to raise issues, Viswam said: “The intention is to make Parliament a Bhakt Jan Samiti with no place for discussions.”
