Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Thursday predicted a landslide for a united Opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and asserted that the end of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun.

"The grand Opposition alliance will win 300 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The first chapter of this got over when we all met in Patna. The next is going to be in Bangalore,” Lalu said.

“Leaders of 17 different parties, including us, are coming together. Let him (Modi) speak whatever he wants to because he is on his way out. He will be routed and removed,” Lalu added.

Talking to reporters while on his way to the Patna airport to catch a flight to Delhi, the RJD chief revealed that he was going there for some blood tests, and would then visit Bangalore to attend the Opposition meeting, expected to be held on July 17 and 18.

The Opposition leaders had previously met here in Patna on June 23 after being invited by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Asked about who would be the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Opposition and whether it would be Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whom he had advised at the Opposition meeting to get married, Lalu’s famous impish smile was back.

“Marriage is one thing, becoming the Prime Minister is another. But whoever becomes the Prime Minister, should not be without a wife. It is a very bad thing for people to stay at the Prime Minister’s bungalow without a wife. This should be banned. Anybody who becomes the Prime Minister should stay there with his wife,” Lalu said.

Lalu and his wife Rabri Devi are considered doting parents and have nine children.

While the comments left the people surrounding him in splits, a few RJD leaders said that the condition put forth by Lalu would also rule out Rahul, who is unmarried, and Nitish, who is a widower.
