Calcutta, July 20 :     Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee will launch her campaign tomorrow in the presence of all nominees for the general elections at a rally in memory of 13 Youth Congress activists killed in a police firing at Esplanade in 1993. Defence minister George Fernandes is likely to attend the rally. Of 42 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal, Mamata will put up candidates for 29, while the rest will go to the BJP as part of an electoral understanding with the party. Hours before a formal announcement, Mamata was busy giving final touches to her nominee list. Trinamul sources said former bureaucrat S.M. Murshed and retired inspector general of police Amal Dutta and former director of the central excise board Tarun Roy might be some of the surprises on the list. While Murshed is being fielded in Jangipur, Dutta and Roy are being considered for Katwa and Darjeeling. Murshed, when contacted, said: ?I will begin the campaign from September 1.? He considered Mamata to be ?absolutely secular, with a growing popularity among the Muslims?.
