Lawyers keep off work over transfer of two judges

They demanded that the decision on the transfer be withdrawn, as was done in the case of a judge of the Gujarat High Court

Functioning of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was affected on Friday as a section of lawyers boycotted work protesting against the proposal to transfer two judges to other States.

The Supreme Court collegium on Thursday recommended the transfer of Justice Battu Devanand and Justice D Ramesh to Madras and Allahabad High Courts respectively.

Led by former judge and practising lawyer J Sravan Kumar, advocates abstained from work and staged a demonstration on the court premises at Nelapadu.

They demanded that the decision on the transfer be withdrawn, as was done in the case of a judge of the Gujarat High Court.

They resolved to continue their protest till the demand is met.
