Jamshedpur, June 9 :     Ending a week of suspense, Chaitali Bhowmik alias Shahnaz and her husband Rizwan surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Sakchi court here today. The couple, accused of having murdered four of Chaitali?s family members, had their six-month-old baby with them. Chaitali was sent to Sakchi jail in judicial custody, while Rizwan was forwarded to Ghagidih jail. The police later sought the court?s permission to take the couple in their custody for questioning. The couple was taken to an undisclosed spot for interrogation, which continued till late in the evening. Police officers refused to divulge the details. ?The CJM has directed the jail authorities to feed and nurture Chaitali?s child,? said Balai Panda, the couple?s lawyer. It was a day of high drama in court as the couple drove in at about 6.30 am and waited for the CJM to start the morning sessions. A crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the couple. But the two were in court for a very short while and were whisked away in a police car to their respective jails. Chaitali is accused of having murdered her parents, brother and grandmother at her home in Ghorabandha near Telco Colony with the help of her husband. On June 1, the police broke into their house and recovered four decomposed bodies. A case was filed by Chaitali?s uncle, Anupam Ray, under Sections 302, 201, 380 and 34 of the IPC, accusing them of murder and destruction of evidence. The police suspect that the four were murdered about four months ago. Neighbours had reported having seen Chaitali leave the house with Rizwan in a Maruti van early in March. The bodies were found dumped in the septic tank of the house. The police broke in following a complaint by Chaitali?s uncle and her elder sister.
