Four people died and three were injured in a fire that broke out at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’ (ONGC) plant in Navi Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

ONGC said there was no impact on oil processing and the gas had been diverted to its Hazira plant in Surat, Gujarat.

The blaze started around 7 am in a processing plant of ONGC at Uran in Navi Mumbai, the police said.

'Four people have been killed and three are injured,' a senior police officer said.

'Fire broke out in storm water drainage in Uran Plant early morning,' ONGC said in a tweet. It added that the blaze was 'successfully doused within two hours' by a fire fighting team.

Nearly 22 fire tenders, including those of the ONGC, Navi Mumbai civic body and other agencies, were called in, the police said.

The injured persons were admitted to nearby hospitals, he said, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
