Tikamgarh (MP): A 30-year-old Dalit was allegedly beaten up for riding a motorcycle past the home of a village sarpanch here, police said on Monday.
Hemant Kurmi, the sarpanch of Dharampur village, and four others were arrested on Sunday night, assistant sub-inspector Ramsewak Jha of Deri police post said.
Dayaram Ahirwar has in his complaint alleged that Kurmi, his brothers and one of their neighbours beat him severely on June 21, Jha said.
Ahirwar has alleged that the accused told him that, while passing before their homes, he should have dragged the motorcycle instead of riding it, Jha added.
Two days after the alleged incident, a video clip went viral on social media, purportedly showing Kurmi abusing and beating Ahirwar along with the other accused.
Apart from Kurmi, the police have arrested his brothers Vinod, Munnu and Aniruddh and neighbour Dinesh Yadav, Jha said.
The five accused have been booked under provisions of the Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and for wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, abusing in public and criminal intimidation, he said. PTI
