India on Saturday saw another record spike of 14,516 new Covid-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 3,95,048, while the death toll rose to 12,948 with 375 new fatalities, according to the Union health ministry data.

The number of recoveries continued to surge with 2,13,830 patients cured so far, while there are 1,68,269 active cases, according to the updated official figures at 8 am.

One patient has migrated.

"Thus, around 54.12 per cent of the patients have recovered so far," an official said. The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.

India registered over 10,000 cases for the ninth day in a row.

The country has witnessed a surge of over two lakh infections from June 1 till 20 with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh among the top five states that have seen a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases.

6 people working in UP-112 helpline test positive

Six people working in the Uttar Pradesh Helpline 112 have tested positive for Covid-19, following which the office has been closed for sanitisation till Monday, a police officer said.

They are of the technical team and work in the server area, he said, adding that all of them are asymptomatic.

"After one of the personnel working in UP-112 tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, samples of 30 people were taken. Five of them have tested positive for Covid-19," ADG, UP-112, Asim Kumar Arun said in a statement.

The ADG said the building has been closed for the next 48 hours for sanitisation.

All employees will work from home and the Prayagraj centre will take calls till the office here is closed, he said

Nagpur records 85 cases, tally reaches 1,228

At least 85 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra's Nagpur district in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the region to 1,228, a district official said on Saturday.

No new casualties were reported in the district, where 18 persons have succumbed to the infection so far, the official said.

As per a release, swab reports of 85 persons came out positive on Saturday morning.

Of the 1,228 cases recorded in the district, 784 patients have recovered from the deadly infection so far, it was stated.

Rajasthan reports 158 cases, tally rises to 14,314

Rajasthan reported 158 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the state's infection tally to 14,314, officials said.

The state has so far reported 333 deaths due to the virus.

Of the fresh cases, 40 were from Dholpur, followed by 36 from Jaipur, and 34 from Bharatpur. Jhalawar reported 12 cases, while 11 cases were reported from Sirohi.

Karauli reported 10 coronavirus infections, Rajsamand eight, and Bikaner three. Swai Madhopur, Jhunjhunu and Bhilwara reported one case each, while one patient was from outside the state, according to an official report here.

Arunachal records highest single-day spike with 32 new infections

Arunachal Pradesh registered its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases as 32 more people tested positive for it, a senior health official said on Saturday.

The fresh cases raised the virus count in the northeastern state to 135 on Friday, the official said.

"The new patients, all returnees from other states, were placed under institutional quarantine. They are asymptomatic and have been admitted to Covid-19 care centres," State Surveillance Officer, Dr L Jampa, said in a health bulletin issued on Saturday.

Thirteen of the new patients are from the state capital while 10 are from worst-hit Changlang district, eight from West Kameng and one from Lohit district, he said.

Of the 135 cases, 121 are active, while 14 people have recovered, the official said.

Three patients were discharged from a Covid-19 care centre in the state capital on Friday and advised home quarantine for 14 days, Jampa said.

Daman sees rise in cases, its border with Gujarat sealed

The number of Covid-19 positive patients in Daman district of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (UTDNHDD) has gone up to 27 with eight fresh cases, following which the administration has sealed the district's border with Gujarat border for a few days, officials said on Saturday.

Most of the 27 Covid-19 patients in Daman are factory workers who cross the border to work in industrial units at Vapi in neighbouring Gujarat and vice versa, the officials said.

The eight fresh cases were reported on Friday.
