Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday suspended Congress leader Rajani Ashokrao Patil for recording a video of the protests by Opposition parties in the Well of the House when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was replying to the motion of thanks to the President address on Thursday.

A motion was moved by BJP leader G.V.L. Narasimha Rao for action against Patil.

Dhankhar said there was prima facie evidence that Patil recorded the video, which was later circulated on Twitter.

The Opposition parties demanded the setting up of a committee to probe the matter instead of taking immediate action, but Dhankhar put up the motion for consideration of the House and announced Patil’s suspension for the remaining period of the budget session.

Several Opposition leaders complained that Rajya Sabha TV was not telecasting the entire proceedings of the House and had not shown their protest.
