New Delhi: The Congress will organise a convention for the Other Backward Classes in Delhi on June 11, which will be addressed by party president Rahul Gandhi.

The first-of-its-kind effort is aimed at sending out a message that the party is reaching out to a community not seen as a traditional Congress base. The party's traditional vote bank includes Brahmins, Dalits and Muslims.

More than 10,000 Congress workers from across the country are expected to attend the convention, to be organised by the party's newly formed OBC department, headed by Tamradhwaj Sahu.

"It's incorrect to say the OBCs do not support the Congress," Sahu said. "Our governments have done so much for OBCs, including (ensuring) reservation for them.

We'll discuss the problems faced by the people at the convention."
