Allahabad police have registered a case against 43 security guards of the University of Allahabad, including three named for firing and beating a former and some present students.

Vivekanand Pathak, secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee whom the guards had attacked on Monday, stated in his police complaint on Tuesday: “It was after a long gap that I wanted to go inside the campus to complete my KYC at the SBI. The guards stopped me at Gate No. 1 and hit on my head from the back without any provocation. As the students standing there reacted, another guard opened fire in which one student received a pellet on his right arm. Thereafter the security guards baton-charged the students.”
