A gang that had struck terror in Bihar’s Jamui district for forcibly kissing unsuspecting women and girls for the past several weeks finally landed in the net cast by the state police, bringing their escapades to an end.

The police arrested four persons, including kingpin Muhammad Akram, after conducting raids in Jamui and Jharkhand’s Deoghar on Sunday night and Monday.

The other accused have been identified as Rajnish Kumar, Sunny Kumar, and Muhammad Imran. All of them are residents of different places in Jamui.

Their audacious acts came to light on March 10 when a CCTV footage from Jamui Sadar Hospital went viral on social media platforms. It showed Akram grabbing a female health worker, who was talking on mobile within the hospital premises, and kissing her for several seconds before running away. The viral video also brought to light the terror among Jamui residents.

Many of them had faced a similar situation and they pointed towards several incidents in which women or girls were targeted in the same manner.

However, none of them, not even the health worker, could muster the courage to register a formal complaint with the police.

The members of their families were ashamed of doing so. But the police took cognisance of the hospital incident after it came to their knowledge and started investigating the matter.

Sources said that a girl, who was a victim of a similar crime, recognised the person as Akram and tipped off the police about him.

“Akram has confessed to his involvement in the incident that took place at Jamui Sadar Hospital. He and his accomplices were involved in other similar incidents of kissing women and minor girls forcibly and then fleeing away,” a Jamui-based police officer told The Telegraph on the condition of anonymity.
