April 28: Bangladeshi academic Anisuzzaman has won the Ananda Purashkar for the Bengali year 1423, for the third part of his autobiography Bipula Prithibi (The Vast World).
The award from the ABP Group will be conferred on the 80-year-old author tomorrow.
Bipula Prithibi starts with the author's return to his homeland immediately after the Liberation War of 1971, which led to the birth of Bangladesh.
The author describes the aftermath of the war and the task of building a fledgling nation that lay ahead.
The first two parts of the autobiography are Kaal Nirabodhi (Time Eternal) and Aamar Ekattor (My '71).
Bipula Prithibi has transcended the confines of one man's life to depict the tragedy of the subcontinent.
Bipula Prithibi has been chosen from a shortlist of three books, which included Anita Agnihotri's Mahanadi and Pathik Guha's Eeshwarkona, Manush Ityadi (God's particle, Human etc).
The judges - Krishna Bose, Ramananda Bandopadhyay, Samaresh Majumdar, Selina Hossain and Soumitra Chatterjee - acknowledged the worth of the other two books while selecting Bipula Prithibi for the award.#
