The BJP on Sunday won three seats in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while the RJD retained the Mokama assembly seat in the bypolls to seven assembly constituencies in six states.

However, the TRS has emerged winner in Telangana.

Rutuja Latke, the candidate of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), won the bypoll to Andheri (East) Assembly seat in Mumbai, while the TRS maintained a slender lead over the BJP in Munugodu in Telangana.

A Precision Air plane crashed into Lake Victoria on Sunday before landing in the northwestern Tanzanian city of Bukoba, police said.

According to the police, "bad weather" caused the crash as the plane was flying at about 100 meters (328 feet).

"It was raining and the plane plunged into the water. Everything is under control,'' regional police commander William Mwampaghale told reporters.


India qualified for the semi-finals before even taking the field against Zimbabwe as South Africa lost their match against the Netherlands by 13 runs.

Colin Ackermann hammered a brilliant unbeaten knock of 41 runs off 26 balls, helping his side post 158 for four in 20 overs. Colin's unbeaten knock also included three fours and two sixes. Stephan Myburgh and Max ODowd laid the foundation with a 58-run opening stand but South Africa picked wickets in the middle.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have become parents to a baby girl.

Alia, who announced her pregnancy in June this year, gave birth to her and Ranbir's first child at HN Reliance hospital in South Mumbai.

"It's a girl. She arrived at the 7.30 am for the delivery. She has been coming to the hospital regularly between 11am-12pm for the past few days," the hospital insider said.

It is learnt the Kapoor family is expected to issue a formal statement soon, announcing the birth of the baby.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the forces that indulged in spreading hatred and defamed Gujarat will be swept out of the state in the next month's Assembly elections.

Addressing his first election rally in his home state after the announcement of poll dates, Modi came up with a new slogan in Gujarati - "Aa Gujarat, mai bnavyu chhe" (I have made this Gujarat), and also made people chant it several times during his 25-minute-long speech.


Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, who was with the national squad for T20 World Cup in Australia, has been arrested on charges of sexual assault, team sources said on Sunday.

It has been learnt that the 31-year-old Gunathilaka was arrested and taken to Sydney City police station in the wee hours of Sunday following an investigation into alleged sexual assault of a woman on November 2.

Pakistan's former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Sunday said the protest march led by Imran Khan's PTI party against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has only been temporarily halted and not called off.

The protest march was called off after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)chief and former prime minister Khan was injured on Thursday in an assassination bid.

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Sunday said that she will be shooting for her next film "Emergency" in Assam soon.

Ranaut had been location-hunting for the project since last week in various parts of the state, including Kaziranga and Karbi Anglong.

Talking to reporters at the airport, Ranaut said, I have been to Assam several times. It is a beautiful place for shooting."

"I will return with my entire crew soon for shooting," she added.

The Election Commission has proposed reducing the amount a candidate contesting polls can pay in cash for campaign-related expenditure from the existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 2,000 to make their transactions more transparent, sources said.

In the proposal submitted to the government recently, the poll panel recommended that the Conduct of Election Rules should be amended to ensure that all cash payments in excess of Rs 2,000 made to a person or entity for election-related expenses are made either through account payee cheques or online and digital means.
