Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir with traditional fervour and gaiety. A large congregation of devotees assembled at Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake in Kashmir. Former chief ministers of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were among those who offered prayers at the shrine.
Muslim devotees offer prayers on the occassion of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan, in Thiruvananthapuram. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated across the world on different days and it is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon which is supposed to denote the start of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar.
The Muslim community in Kerala celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with traditional fervour, marking the culmination of the one-month-long religious fasting. Faithful, cutting across age barriers, thronged mosques across the state to offer prayers in the morning. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan offered prayers at the famed Beemapally Masjid near here while Lok Sabha candidates Shashi Tharoor and Pannian Raveendran took part in the Eidgah held in Palayam Juma Masjid.
