Over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee delegates form the electoral college to pick the party chief in a secret ballot. Voting began at 10 am at the AICC headquarters and ended on Monday in the Congress presidential poll as senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor faced off for the post of AICC chief.  The results of the poll will be announced on October 19.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is being questioned by the agency in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the excise policy for the national capital. Against which Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh and others staged protest outside the CBI headquarters. Police detained Singh and others for alleged violation of prohibitory orders.

Several loud explosions rocked the center of the Ukrainian capital on Monday, a week after Russia orchestrated a massive, coordinated air strike across the country. The central Shevchenko district of the capital had been hit, and residents have been urged to take shelter. The early morning explosions sparked a fire in a non-residential building and damaged several apartment blocks. There was no word yet on casualties.

Mohammad Shami put the concerns over his fitness to rest with a sensational 20th over as India pulled off a six-run win over Australia in their first warm-up fixture of the T20 World Cup on Monday. Shami, who last played a competitive game in July and landed here after suffering a long bout of COVID-19, turned up to bowl the last over of the game and made a decisive impact on the game. Needing 16 runs off the last 12 balls with six wickets in hand, Australia were on course for a comfortable win before Shami, Harshal Patel and Virat Kohli the fielder scripted a turnaround for India.

Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she was shocked that former India captain Sourav Ganguly was deprived of a second term as the BCCI president. She also said, she would urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene so that Ganguly is allowed to contest the elections for International Cricket Council (ICC) chief.She requested the Centre to consider this matter in the light of future of sports in the country.

All seven members of the popular South Korean music group BTS are looking forward to carrying out their military service with oldest member Jin initiating the process by the month end, their management agency announced on Monday. In a statement posted on fan community forum Weverse, the band's management company BigHit Music said the septet hopes to reconvene as a unit around 2025 following their service commitment.

A day after noted TV actor Vaishali Thakkar allegedly committed suicide at her house in Indore, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said the state police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against a couple residing in her neighbourhood. Thakkar (29) was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a stole in her house in Saibag Colony of Indore on Sunday. A case under Indian Penal Code Section 306 (abetment of suicide) was registered against her neighbour Rahul Navlani and his wife Disha in the matter and further investigation is underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched subsidised urea under single brand 'Bharat' as part of One Nation, One Fertiliser scheme and inaugurated 600 Kisan Samruddhi Kendras. The Centre has started a new scheme - Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana - One Nation One Fertilizer (ONOF) - under which it is mandatory for companies to market subsidised fertiliser under single brand 'Bharat'.

Britain's new Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt on Monday reversed almost all of Prime Minister Liz Truss's tax cuts announced in the mini-budget last month and scaled back the expensive energy bills support in an emergency fiscal statement to reassure the jittery financial markets. Hunt's emergency financial statement is an attempt to reassure the markets about the country's fiscal sustainability and calm the shockwaves of his predecessor Kwasi Kwarteng's mini-budget last month.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday directed embattled SpiceJet to carry out analysis of engine oil samples from its Q400 fleet and other inspections, days after one of its planes made an emergency landing at Hyderabad airport due to smoke in the cabin. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also asked the carrier to conduct an inspection of the bleed-off valve screen and housing for evidence of oil witness.
