UP CLOSE: Team t2 interns on the SRKAJOL magic

From the moment I made my way in through thousands of fans to my first peek at the stage and the set-up, I was soooo excited. It was a long wait for Shah Rukh, but no one complained as we danced to the Badshah’s hit tracks.

We laughed, we danced, we even fell and our feet were hurting as hell.... yet our excitement kept increasing by the minute. And then... I saw him. We got up on our chairs to get a better view and screamed his name out a million times... until he noticed us. He looked at us, he waved and blew kisses at us. I swear I felt weak in my knees after that... good thing I didn’t fall off the chair! He came, he danced and he conquered. I walked out as happy as ever, while the little girl inside me did a victory dance — Simran Kapur

Growing up in the ’90s meant growing up on Shah Rukh-Kajol films. I always saw my mom laugh and cry through their films, but I couldn’t understand this phenomenon... till Tuesday night. That evening at the East Bengal grounds, watching Bollywood’s romantic couple doing what they do best won me over — and how! From the moment they took the stage together till the time they danced to Janam janam at the end, Shah Rukh and Kajol had me completely under their spell. They sang, they danced, they cheered and they gave everyone a happy ending, just like one of their films — Anwesha Dhar

Festive lights, foot-tapping beats, euphoric atmosphere and deafening cheers for King Khan set the mood for what can easily be called one of the best evenings I’ve ever had. Having grown up watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai at least a hundred times, seeing SRK so close was always a dream. Before they arrived, I danced to my heart’s content, because if there’s Ladki badi anjaani hai playing, sitting quietly is definitely not my thing. And then he arrived... his dimpled smile and black shirt enough to make every girl in the audience swoon. He waved, he did the trademark SRK arm stretch, delivered his most iconic dialogues... and won our hearts all over again — Rupsha Bhadra

SRK is my idol and a self-made man. He not only loves his fans but treats them with so much respect and admits that whatever he is today is because of his fans. I reached right on time. After a long wait he came and when I heard his voice my heart stopped for a moment. I was thinking: “What better Christmas gift could I ever get?” SRK made everybody laugh and dance, and ended with a dialogue from DDLJ. I really didn’t want him to go, but he came right in front of the stage and said goodbye to all of us. It was the best moment and the best day of my life. Thank you SRK for making me who I am today and making me have a hell of a time yesterday. Love you — Shreya Ghose

“I belong here,” said Shah Rukh to Kajol. In that crowd of screaming fans stood a girl waiting with all her heart, hoping that she wouldn’t faint. I have been a Shah Rukh Khan fan all my life, but hadn’t ever seen him in flesh and blood. The three-hour wait for SRK didn’t seem too long as I had been waiting for a moment like this for years. In the end, however, it was all worth it, as I smiled from ear to ear seeing the man himself doing all the “just SRK” things he does on screen... but this time for real. It’s his easy sense of humour and the remarkable sense of humility that make him a true dilwala. #MybestXmasgiftever — Debdutta Sengupta

I had fallen for the SRK charm when I was just five or six. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge were the films that started this madness. Several years later, the craze has only grown, with him becoming an example of all that I wanted in my partner. The event on Tuesday evening was simply the best. His dialogue-baazi was just out of the world and when he said the line: ‘Bade bade deshon main aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hai, Senorita,” I almost melted in my seat! — Sulogna Ghosh

The two hour wait for my dream couple was totally worth it when the ‘black’ duo worked in pumping up the energy of an almost tired crowd. Seeing them together for the first time off-screen was as magical they are on screen. The lucky winners got to recite dialogues and dance with them and I have never been more jealous of a girl than the one (Mansi Sharma Wadhwani) who was helped by SRK to put on her hair clip followed by a hug. I so wish I was in her place! The best part was when SRK warned Kajol not to mess with him in Calcutta. It is HIS city, after all. They promised to come back to Calcutta very soon... and I cannot wait for them  — Asmita Nandy, third-year, Loreto College

FOR KING KHAN... ALL THE WAY FROM KRAKOW!
On Tuesday morning, t2 found a mail in its inbox... from Polish couple Artur and Roksana Witkowska. The mail, written by Artur, was about his wife’s “addiction” to Shah Rukh Khan, how her biggest wish was to see the Bollywood Badshah in real life, and how they happened to be in Calcutta on Tuesday. Reason enough for t2 to play Santa to the Witkowskas — who hail from Krakow in Poland — and give them VIP passes for the SRK show. Later that evening, the two walked in for the mega event at the East Bengal Club dressed to kill — he in a black suit and she radiant in a pink sari (picture inset shows her dancing with “Calcutta Shah Rukh Khan” Shahnawaz).

The reaction at the end of the SRK show from SRK-fanatic Roksana?  “I have been in love with Shah Rukh Khan since Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...  We want to thank t2 for such a lovely event. We sat in the first row and I never thought I would get to see Shah Rukh Khan for real. I felt as if I was dreaming. I could almost touch ‘His Majesty’! On stage, he was an absolutely perfect man and actor. It was fun and very entertaining. It is the best Christmas gift ever.

Thank you so much t2 for the passes!”
