Dev and Shrabanti

Dev and Shrabanti, each with a hit film in 2008 (his Mon Mane Naa and her Bhalobasha Bhalobasha), have teamed up for a love story to be produced by Ashok Dhanuka.

And guess what? Shrabanti’s real-life better half will make sure the romance goes right, from behind the camera! Rajib Biswas is the man, the chief assistant director in the Nana Patekar-starrers Yugpurush and Ghulam-E-Musthafa.

“Shrabanti was my first choice, not only because she is my wife but also because she is a very good actress. She has a certain softness in her face and the mannerisms needed for the role,” explains Rajib.

Dev and Shrabanti play rich kids for whom their parents have no time. The two meet in college, bond with time and when they seem all set, their parents step in to spoil the fun.

Rajib is quick to add that his love story is not run-of-the-mill. “Meghna (Shrabanti) and Akash (Dev) are torn apart by their parents and it’s the pain of separation that my film deals with,” says the 32-year-old, who met Shrabanti when he started doing television work on his return from Mumbai a few years back. Before that Rajib had assisted Rituparno Ghosh in Asukh, Bariwali and Titli. His last films as a chief assistant director were Jayobrato Chatterjee’s Lovesongs: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow and Rangan Chakravarty’s Bor Ashbe Ekhuni.

“After marriage, I wanted Shrabanti to settle down with my family. Now things are stable at home and both of us have decided to work in films,” adds Rajib. The team hits the floor later this month, for outdoor shoots in north Bengal and Hyderabad.
