Shah Rukh Khan’s Paanchvi Pass show on Star Plus may have failed to pass the popularity test but Ruk Ruk Khan is happy with the recognition he is getting. The pretender Khan is an impersonator who stars in Kya Aap Paanchvi Fail Champu Hain? on Filmy.

The show, that spoofs Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?, went on air a month ago and beams over the weekend at 7.30 pm. “More and more people are recognising me on the streets,” Sunil Grover reports gleefully.

Grover has been playing Ruk Ruk Khan ever since SRK took the quizmaster’s seat. Last year, his show was called Kaun Banega Champu?. No prizes for guessing why.

But when it comes to prizes, no one returns home a crorepati, or even a footi kauri -pati, from Ruk Ruk Khan’s show. “I ask the dumbest of questions, like in the Sholay dialogue — Yahaan se panchaas-panchaas kos door gaon mein jab bachcha raat ko rota hai, to maa kehti hai, beta so ja...so ja nahin to Gabbar Singh aa jaayega — the options could be Malkosh and panchas kos.”

Sunil has been studying SRK’s body language and dialogue delivery for long to do a convincing Ruk Ruk Khan. “I saw a couple of Paanchvi Pass episodes before we started off. Nobody is easy to impersonate. But at least ours is a scripted show.”

And if SRK has had star guests like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Lalu Prasad, Ruk Ruk has shared the dais with Unsaif Ali Khan, Pappida and Balu Prasad.

Sunil, who has recently worked alongside the other Khan (Aamir) in Ghajini, is ready to keep Ruk Ruk going. “But I’d be happy to create my own identity.”

If he ever could get the Bollywood Badshah to come on his show, what would be the first question he would ask Shah Rukh Khan? “Maroge to nahin, na?” says Sunil, wincing in mock fear.
