Rimjhim Mitra is best known as Diya in the Zee Bangla mega serial Bonhishikha. But now the unconventional beauty of the small screen is busy playing housewife in two mega serials.
t2 caught up with the happening actress for a ‘bohemian’ chat...
Her roles
I am doing two mega serials, Zee Bangla’s Ei Ghar Ei Sansar and Khunje Berai Kachher Manush. In both I’m a housewife, but the characters are not similar. In Ei Ghar Ei Sansar I play Dipti, denied her rights by her husband who is in an extramarital relationship. In Kachher Manush, I am Gargi, a housewife and a mother. She is from the suburbs but her mother-in-law grooms her.
Her looks…
I have an unconventional face, not the typical Bengali paanpata-type face but that has never posed a problem in my getting different roles. I think the definition of beauty has changed over the years and the audience doesn’t mind (an unconventional look) either. Looks-wise my characters are quite different. In Kachher Manush I wear south cotton saris and shakha-pola, while in Ei Ghar I don’t wear shakha-pola.
Her high point...
The role that gave me maximum satisfaction was in the mega serial Bonhishikha. I could experiment a lot as Diya Sarkar. I doubt if anyone has ever portrayed a role with so many different shades on TV.
Her take on seniors vs juniors...
I don’t consider myself a senior. But there are a couple of newcomers. There’s Parno Mitra, too, who is doing Khela and Mohona. There’s work for everyone.
Her PoA off-screen...
I used to party a lot before but now I don’t. I only attend formal parties whenever I’m invited. When I’m not working I watch movies or go out with friends.
Her take on her fraternity’s dress sense...
Very few people in our industry have a good dress sense. There are too many who have no dress sense but I won’t name them as I don’t want to get killed!
Her choice of clothes...
I love to wear casual stuff; anything that catches my eye. I don’t have a personal designer, but sometimes I wear Agnimitra Paul’s creations.
Her idea of dressing sexy...
I feel a sari is more sensual and it reveals more. I am very bohemian and like to dress in the hippie style. I also like off-shoulders.
Her view on Calcutta becoming bindaas...
Yes, Calcutta has changed a lot. And t2 is proof enough! The party pictures on the Goodlife pages show that Calcutta night-life has changed.
